Lehmann Pools & Spas practices science-based pool care! We believe in knowing the facts surrounding all of the products and services we provide – one example is the use of “Stabilized Chlorine.” If you use Chlorine Tablets – either 1″ or 3″ – you are using “Stabilized Chlorine.” Here are some facts:
- Stabilizer – sometimes called Conditioner – is Cyanuric Acid
- Cyanuric Acid – CYA – protects Chlorine from burnoff due to sunlight
- CYA inhibits Chlorine’s effectiveness as a sanitizer; especially when CYA is greaater than 50 PPM
- Tablets continually add CYA
- Nothing (no chemical) removes CYA once it’s in your pool water
- To lower CYA, you must remove pool water and replace with fresh
Tablets are convenient, but using them requires care. Come in to Lehmann Pools & Spas, bring a water sample for testing, and get the facts!

Increasingly common in commercial and public pools, secondary sanitization virtually eliminates problem water by killing nasty, Chlorine-resistant organisms and destroying chloramines. Health departments worldwide recognize the hazards of chloramines and RWI.
Recreational Water Illness – any disease transmitted through contact or ingestion of water from swimming pools, water parks, spas, hot tubs, water flumes, etc. Includes skin rashes, swimmer’s ear, crypto and giardia.
Ozone or UV secondary systems are so good at eliminating RWI organisms and destroying chloramines that use of those systems is recommended or required by many health departments. Model Aquatic Health Code – CDC
Home systems are available, too. Either UV or Ozone, or combination UV/Oone systems can micro-shock your post-filtration water stream and virtually eliminate cloudy water, disease organisms, algae spores, and nasty chloramines! Ask us how!
Lehmann Pools & Spas uses the latest science-based pool water treatments to keep commercial pools safe – and we can do the same for you. After all – you want a safe ool!
The Today Show recently aired this – http://www.today.com/parents/what-makes-your-eyes-red-pool-its-not-chlorine-t28336 – about what the CDC had to say.
PA Department of Health regulates and inspects commercial and public pools. In addition to maintaining a proper sanitizer level, they have specific recommendations regarding pH and other balance chemicals. PA DoH also recommends limiting the use of Cyanuric Acid (stabilizer) as it significantly impacts the ability of Chlorine to work. PA DoH CYA & Chlorine
Most health departments are now also recommending a secondary sanitization system like UV or Ozone. We can help you decide what works best for you.
While you can do anything you want with your home pool, we think it’s a great idea to follow their recommendations. There’s no difference between a public ool and a home ool!

Rainy, cool weather tempting you to “save money” by not caring for your pool? After all, why put in chemicals if nobody’s swimming?
Routine care for 15,000 gallon pool:
Daily care = 4 oz Chlorine X 7 days = 28 oz. = 1.75 pounds
1.75# X $2.40 per pound = $4.20 spent over 7 days
Clean up same pool; green with algae:
Back-To-Blue® System
$25.99
Just want to use our plain CalHypo shock (PurePool)?
3# X 4 days:
3 bags X $3.99 = $11.97 X 4 = $47.88
You could double or even triple your routine care – probably a really good idea in rainy weather – and still not come close to spending the same amount as it will take to clean up your green pool!
Take care of it! Even when you don’t feel like it! You’ll save $$$!
